PROFESSOR JOY OGBAZI

Professor Joy Ogbazi of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning is the President, Catholic Women Organization (CWO), St Mulumba Chaplaincy University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. St Anne's CWO, as the organization is popularly known, has been playing a very active role in the Chaplaincy over the years and Professor Ogbazi is highly committed to leading the women, through various activities in uplifting the religious and general welfare of the chaplaincy. She is also a Lady of the Knights of St Mulumba and the President of the Ladies of St Mulumba, St Joseph Sub Council, Emene, Enugu. Professor Ogbazi has built an impressive career in academics. Starting in 1987 as a Lecturer II, she attained the peak of her academic career in 2006 as the first female professor of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria. As one of the pioneer lecturers in professional degree programmes in Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria, her graduates are found all over the country and beyond. Some are already professors, senior academics and professionals. Over the years, she has held leadership positions and played key active roles in many professional bodies, learned societies and governmental agencies. Presently she is the Chairman, Mandatory Continuing Professional Programme of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners. She was a Co-chair and member of the Scientific Committee at the World Planning Schools Congress in Rio de Janeiro, an outstanding role that earned her immense global recognition among, urban and Regional Planning schools- In addition to core urban and regional planning, Prof. Ogbazi has pursued profound interest in women and development, participating in over twenty international programmes in that area.

Prof. Joy Ogbazi has received many Awards, recognitions and Grants including the Fund for Leadership Development of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, USA; Women of the year 2004 by the American Biographical Institute for her outstanding accomplishments in her academic career; Diamond Award of the catholic Women Organization, St Vincent Church, Nimo; Adaife of St. John Anglican Church Abagana; Distinguished Daughter of Abagana by Abagana Town Union. She is happily married for over forty years to Professor Chief Nwabueze John Ogbazi (Ezeoba, Udemmuta Dezue Nimo), a catholic Knight of the Order of St Mulumba (KSM) Nigeria and they are blessed with children and many grandchildren.
